Diesel Prices Rise After Weeks of Decline
The price of diesel rose for the first time in nearly two months, climbing roughly four cents to bump the national average to $4.583.
All regions of the country except for one saw higher prices for the week ending Jan. 2, according to an Energy Information Administration (EIA) report.
The Gulf Coast experienced the most substantial hike — around 10 cents — with the area’s average price now sitting at $4.267. The East Coast’s average price rose four cents, leaving the per-gallon price at $4.852.
The Midwest and West Coast both saw jumps of around two cents, bringing their average prices to $4.423 and $5.091, respectively.
The Rocky Mountain region was this week’s outlier, witnessing a drop of one and a half cents. A gallon of diesel there is now $4.73.
Historically, the price of diesel is $0.97 more expensive than a year ago at this time.
