Diesel Prices Hit Record High

The national average cost of diesel fuel increased 15 cents, reaching a record $5.718 a gallon for the week ending June 13.

Regionally, there were increases — the Midwest saw the largest price hike, coming in at more than 16 cents per gallon to $5.736 — and decreases — East Coast prices dropped 7 cents to $5.852 a gallon, according to the Energy Information Administration's weekly figures. Despite the drop, East Coast prices are still more than 13 cents over the national average.

Similarly, the West Coast saw prices drop just under 2 cents to $6.423 per gallon, although they far outpaced the national average by more than 70 cents. The Gulf Coast however has managed to stay below the national average the past few weeks. Currently, the average price is $5.370.

The Rocky Mountain region increased more than 10 cents, bringing the average price to $5.692.

California continues to have the highest diesel prices in the nation, with consumers paying $6.887 per gallon.

Overall, diesel prices remain well above where they were last year, with the average price $2.432 per gallon more than this time last year.
