Diesel Prices Edge Closer to $5

Falling for the 10th time in 11 weeks, the average price of diesel nationally dropped just over 5 cents to $5.033.

Every region of the country saw a price drop for the week ending Sept. 12, according to Energy Information Administration (EIA) data.

The East Coast had the largest decline in prices — more than 8 cents — with a gallon of diesel costing $4.949.

Diesel prices in the Midwest fell almost 5 cents, leaving an average gallon at $5.085.

The Gulf Coast and the West Coast both fell around 3.5 cents for average prices of $4.760 and $5.658, respectively.

The Rocky Mountain region had the smallest decrease – 1 cent – but a decrease nonetheless, with a gallon of diesel now costing $4.961 in the area.

California remains on top in diesel pricing, with each gallon costing $6.164 in the state. Overall, the price of diesel remains $1.661 higher than a year ago.
