Diesel Prices Drop for Third Consecutive Week
Diesel fuel prices have decreased for three weeks in a row, but remain above $5 per gallon nationwide.
Prices at the pump dropped by 3.2 cents per gallon during the week of May 24-30, according to the U.S. Energy Information Agency. That follows a decrease of 4.3 cents the previous week and a 1-cent drop for the week ending May 16.
However, the average price of $5.539 per gallon is $2.284 greater than this time last year.
The region with the biggest price drop was New England, where diesel dropped 14.5 cents. But prices there are still $3.06 more than they were a year ago, greater than in any other region.
Despite the overall drop, the West Coast actually experienced an increase of 5.3 cents. Diesel prices in California are still the highest in the nation at $6.542 per gallon.
On the other end of the spectrum, the Gulf Coast continues to have the lowest prices in the country at $5.18 per gallon.
