Diesel Prices Drop Dramatically
The price of a gallon of diesel fuel dropped more than 7 cents nationally, a welcome sign after months of climbing steadily.
The Energy Information Administration (EIA) reported April 11 that the average cost of on-highway diesel fuel dipped .071 cents from the week prior. But even with the reduction, prices are over $5 a gallon in most territories. Only the Midwest, which sits at $4.887 per gallon, and the Gulf Coast region, which pays an average of $4.84 per gallon, came in below that amount.
Most regions are just slightly over $5 a gallon — drivers in the Rocky Mountains territory pay an average of $5.042, for example — with the omnipresent exception of California, where the price is an eyewatering $6.223 per gallon, the EIA reported.
For comparison’s sake, the national average for diesel fuel this time last year was $1.944 a gallon less — nearly two dollars — than it is today.
