Diesel Prices Continue to Plummet Across Nation

Carriers’ wallets once again got good news this week, with the average price of diesel dropping 21 cents.

That precipitous fall lowered the per-gallon average to $4.754 for the week ending Dec. 12, according to a report from the Energy Information Administration (EIA), with every region of the country seeing lower prices.

The Midwest had the sharpest nosedive, with the price falling around 25 cents for an average of $4.651.

The Rocky Mountain region had a similar drop — 22 cents — setting the per-gallon price at $5.027, while the West Coast’s average gallon price fell to $5.287 after a 21-cent fall.

The East Coast and Gulf Coast each saw around an 18-cent decrease, with the per-gallon prices slipping to $5.007 and $4.344, respectively.

The nationwide average is $1.105 more expensive than a year ago at this time.
