Diesel Prices Continue To Climb
The price for a gallon of diesel jumped another 11 cents for the week ending Oct. 17.
According to the Energy Information Administration’s weekly report, the national average for diesel now stands at $5.34. That is nearly $1.67 higher per-gallon than a year ago.
Prices rose in all regions of the country, with the East Coast getting the worst of it. East Coast prices rose an average of 22 cents to reach $5.35 for a gallon of diesel, but one of its sub-regions — New England — saw prices spiral more than 44 cents to $5.59; the sharpest increase for the week.
Price increases in other area were far more incremental. Along the Gulf Coast, the average gallon of diesel will set you back $5.02, an increase of 12 cents. In the Midwest, prices rose 7.6 cents to a little over $5.34, while the average price in the Rocky Mountains rose just under 7 cents to close at around $5.27.
West Coast diesel rose 2.5 cents to a per-gallon price of $5.99, dangerously close to the $6-per-gallon mark.
