Diesel Prices Back on the Rise After Dropping Last Week

The price of a gallon of diesel fuel has increased by almost 3 cents after dipping more than 7 cents a week ago.

The Energy Information Administration (EIA) reported April 18 that the nationally average cost of on-highway diesel fuel was $5.101 per gallon. The average price for the previous week was $5.073.

Regionally, New England actually experienced a tiny drop of .04 cents in diesel prices this past week. However, every other region saw increases ranging from 1.5 cents for the Gulf Coast and the Lower Atlantic to 5.2 cents in the Rocky Mountains.

Most regions are slightly over $5 per gallon, with the exception of the Gulf Coast at $4.855, the Midwest at $4.921, and California at $6.25.

To put things in perspective, the national average cost for diesel fuel this time last year was $4.9033 per gallon. That’s nearly $2 less than it is today.
