Diesel Dips Over 17 Cents Nationwide

The national average price for diesel is back below $5 a gallon after dropping more than 17 cents this week.

A gallon of diesel averaged $4.967 for the week ending Dec. 5, and was down across all regions of the country, according to a report from the Energy Information Administration (EIA).

The Midwest region saw the steepest decline, with prices dropping more than 20 cents to $4.907 per gallon. Prices weren’t far behind in the Gulf Coast region, dipping 17.5 cents to $4.524 for a gallon.

Prices on the West Coast also dipped appreciably, falling more than 16 cents to close at $5.502 per gallon. The East Coast and the Rocky Mountains saw more moderate decreases, with the former falling 14.5 cents to $5.191, while the latter coming down more than 14 cents to $5.25 for a gallon.

Despite the across-the-board drops, the average price is still $1.293 higher than it was at this time last year.
