Devices Yanked from FMCSA’s ELD List

Companies using one of five electronic logging devices (ELD) delisted by regulators must make a switch before April 28.

The affected devices, which were removed effective Feb. 28, are CI ELD LOGS, CN ELD, KSK ELD, TT ELD 30 and TT ELD 1010. These products were removed due to “the companies’ failure to meet the minimum requirement established in 49 C.F.R. part 395, subpart B, appendix A,” according to a release.

That section states that an ELD without a printer “be designed so that the display may be reasonably viewed by an authorized safety official without entering the commercial motor vehicle.”

Any vehicles still utilizing any of those devices after April 28 will be treated as operating without an ELD. FMCSA “strongly encourages” carriers to obtain a compliant product, as drivers cited for operating without an ELD can be taken out of service.

In the meantime, FMCSA recommends that those carriers using any of the above devices revert to paper logs or logging software to record their hours of service.
