DeJoy: More Network Changes Planned Through August
The Postal Service will continue to tweak and modify its ground transportation network through August, according to Postmaster General Louis DeJoy.
In a May 20 letter to Sen. Gary Peters (D-Mich.), DeJoy wrote that the ground network will continue to make routing and scheduling changes through the summer to improve efficiency, while continuing to eliminate trips and working with cross docking. Those changes will continue through August, when they will be put on hold due to the election and peak season.
DeJoy also provided some insight into the planned consolidation of numerous processing facilities. While USPS recently delayed its work on this effort, DeJoy wrote that “at this point of the facility review process, we have made our decisions and quantified our investments over the 59 sites.” He added that he expects the work will resume and be completed “within 18 to 24 months.”
The deployment of Regional Processing and Distribution Centers; Local Processing Centers; and Sorting and Delivery Centers will continue throughout the year; a list of facilities currently undergoing renovations is contained within the letter.
