Congressman James Walkinshaw Recognizes Postal Transportation Contractors at NSRMCA National Convention
WASHINGTON, D.C. — August 14, 2026 — Congressman James Walkinshaw (VA-11) joined members of the National Star Route Mail Contractors Association (NSRMCA) during its 2026 National Convention, recognizing the critical role transportation contractors play in supporting the United States Postal Service and encouraging the industry to remain engaged, united and focused on its shared mission of moving America’s mail.
Throughout his remarks, Congressman Walkinshaw emphasized the importance of the people and companies behind the Postal Service’s transportation network and thanked contractors for their service, dedication and hard work.
Whether a company owns and operates its own equipment or serves as an intermediary connecting transportation capacity with USPS needs, Walkinshaw recognized that the responsibility is ultimately the same: the pressure to move the mail safely, reliably and on time is real for everyone.
His message reinforced a priority that has become central to NSRMCA’s new direction; bringing responsible transportation partners together rather than allowing different business models to divide the industry.
“However you get it done, whether you own the trucks or are an intermediary, we need responsible players in the industry,” Walkinshaw told attendees.
He encouraged members to stay engaged with NSRMCA, recognized the association’s leadership and reminded attendees that Americans across the country depend upon the work performed by the people in the room every day.
Walkinshaw also encouraged the industry to continue speaking with one voice about the value responsible contractors provide to the Postal Service and the American public.
“Congressman Walkinshaw’s message really captured what we want our members to understand about the direction of this association,” said Trinette R. Cunningham, Executive Director of NSRMCA. “We may have different business models, but we have one customer; the United States Postal Service. Our responsibility is to bring responsible transportation partners together, listen to one another and determine how we can collectively help USPS provide the best possible service to the American people.”
Cunningham said NSRMCA’s relationship with USPS will increasingly be centered on partnership, communication and service.
“We want USPS to know that NSRMCA is here to be a resource and a partner,” Cunningham said. “When our customer succeeds, our members succeed. Our job is to listen, understand what USPS needs and bring the experience and capabilities of our members to the table to help meet those needs.”
NSRMCA Board President Jack Khudikyan said Walkinshaw’s recognition of the industry’s workforce was particularly meaningful.
“Our members and their employees work every day, often behind the scenes, to make sure America’s mail gets where it needs to go,” Khudikyan said. “It was important for them to hear that their work is seen and valued. We are committed to bringing this industry together and working collaboratively with the Postal Service to provide safe, reliable and efficient transportation for its customers.”
Walkinshaw’s participation also reflected NSRMCA’s commitment to ensuring policymakers understand both the importance of the Postal Service and the role responsible transportation partners play in helping USPS fulfill its universal service mission.
For Cunningham, the message coming out of the convention is simple:
One association. One voice. One customer: the United States Postal Service.
