Congress Announces Hearing on USPS Operations

Next week, Congress will hold a hearing on USPS operations from the perspective of key stakeholders. 

The hearing will take place Tuesday, June 24, at 2 pm EST, “focusing on the implementation of the bipartisan Postal Service Reform Act and assessing the progress and impact of the Delivering for America Plan,” according to a release

However, the invited witnesses are not USPS employees; they are stakeholders involved with USPS. The group of five are: 

  • Jim Cochrane, CEO, Package Shippers Association 

  • Elena Spatoulas Patel, nonresident senior fellow, The Brookings Institution 

  • Mike Plunkett, CEO/president, Association for Postal Commerce 

  • Thomas Schatz, president, Citizens Against Government Waste 

  • Paul Steidler, senior fellow, Lexington Institute 

Subcommittee Chairman Pete Sessions (R-Tex.) said in a statement that “this subcommittee will continue collaborating across the aisle to ensure the Postal Service thrives as a modern, efficient institution providing reliable service to every American.”
