Coalition To Kickstart Zero-Emission Infrastructure Debuts

As the trucking industry moves toward electrification, three manufacturers are joining forces to advocate for greater infrastructure.

Powering America’s Commercial Transportation (PACT) officially launched Jan. 30, and was established by Daimler Truck North America, Navistar and Volvo Group North America, according to a release

The group’s goal is to advance “America’s zero-emission transportation goals by accelerating the deployment of nationwide infrastructure” for medium- and heavy-duty zero-emission vehicles, the release states. Currently, a lack of infrastructure is seen as “an increasingly significant bottleneck” by the coalition.

PACT notes that specific topics to be considered are capital investment, upgrading the electrical grid and getting charging equipment deployed and installed.

Citing a May 2023 report from the International Council on Clean Transportation, around 700,000 chargers will be required to power the million zero-emission vehicles anticipated on the road by 2030.
