CARB Asks EPA For Another Emissions Waiver
California has requested an Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) waiver to implement its forthcoming Advanced Clean Fleets (ACF) rule.
The request, submitted Nov. 15, comes just ahead of the first wave of ACF regulations taking effect. The rule requires fleets to begin incorporating zero-emission vehicles into their operation starting Jan. 1.
By 2036, all medium- and heavy-duty vehicles sold in the state must be zero-emission.
California previously obtained two waivers in March to execute its Advanced Clean Trucks rule, which requires manufacturers and retailers to begin selling an increasing number of zero-emission vehicles in 2024.
There is an ongoing legal battle over implementation of ACF, with the California Trucking Association filing a lawsuit against CARB in October.
