Average Diesel Prices Fall for Eighth Straight Week
Diesel dropped to $4.911 a gallon as prices continued their weekslong descent.
The national average for the week ending August 15 was down a little more than eight cents from the week prior, according to the Energy Information Administration (EIA).
All regions of the country saw a price decrease, with the West Coast seeing the greatest change of the major regions — nearly nine cents — for an average price of $5.541 per gallon.
The Midwest saw prices drop .087 cents to an average price of $4.872, while East Coast fell the same amount to land at an average price of $4.950.
A gallon of gas in the Rocky Mountain region now averages $4.963, a fall of nearly eight cents, while the Gulf Coast saw a drop of just over six cents to an average price of $4.614.
For some of the regions, this is the first time that average prices have been below $5 in several weeks.
California continues to have the highest prices in the country, with a gallon of diesel costing $6.019 in the state.
Overall, the average price of diesel is $1.555 more than at this time last year.
