Arion Tech ELD Pulled From FMCSA Approved List
An electronic logging device (ELD) manufacturer has had its product de-listed by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA), giving clients until Aug. 23 to find a suitable replacement.
Arion Tech’s ArionT model AT5000 ELD was removed June 24 from the FMCSA’s list of registered ELDs, according to an FMCSA notice. This elimination was “due to the company’s failure to meet the minimum requirements established in 49 C.F.R. § 395, Subpart B, Appendix A”, according to the notice.
The code section specifies that an ELD “without a printer be designed so that the display may be reasonably viewed by an authorized safety official without entering the commercial motor vehicle.”
Companies using ArionT after Aug. 23 “would be considered to be operating without an ELD,” the notice states. Given this, FMCSA “strongly encourages” carriers to replace their ArionT software with a compliant ELD now to avoid compliance issues. Drivers cited for operating without an ELD can be taken out of service.
In the meantime, FMCSA is recommending that carriers with ArionT stop using the device and revert to paper logs or logging software to record their hours of service.
If Arion Tech addresses the ArionT’s identified deficiencies, “FMCSA will place the device back on the list of registered devices,” according to the notice.
